Protest against police torture on journalist

LAKKI MARWAT – The local journalist community took out a rally in Naurang town on Wednesday to protest against the alleged police torture on their colleagues in Bannu.

President of District Press Club Hafiz Minhajud Din led the rally, which started from Pasban Plaza and converged at the bus stand on main GT Road. Local political and religious leaders also took part in the protest demonstration.

The protesters carried banners carrying condemnation of torturing of journalists.

In their speeches Hafiz Minhajud Din, Maulana Bashir Ahmad Haqqani, Shah Swar Khan and others said that government had failed to protect the lives of journalists as attack on media persons had become common.

They condemned torturing of Bannu journalists by police and Wapda employees during the coverage of a protest demonstration against electricity load shedding.

Speakers also came down hard on the Bannu district police officer for his unbecoming attitude with journalists and demanded of the provincial police officer to transfer him from Bannu district forthwith.

They also condemned torturing of a journalist in Karak and demanded of the government and high ups of police department to withdraw cases against their colleagues in Topi (Swabi district).
