On June 28, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted protective bail to Khalid Ahmad Loond, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and his two sons in the murder case of journalist Nasrullah Gadani. The bail was set against a surety bond of Rs50,000 each for ten days. The double bench, headed by Justice Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, issued the order, directing the trio to surrender to the trial court within the stipulated period.

The allegations against the three emerged from a statement recorded before a court in Mirpur Mathelo, Ghotki, where the murder was registered. The family of the slain journalist, along with their lawyer, Advocate Salahuddin Panhwar, pressed for the defendants to defend the charges in court.

Earlier, Nasrullah Gadani’s mother, Pathani Gadani, and two other relatives testified under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, asserting that the MNA and his sons orchestrated the journalist’s death. According to them, despite substantial evidence, the local police hesitated to include the accused’s names in the First Information Report (FIR) due to their influential status.

Nasrullah Gadani, who worked for the Sindhi newspaper ‘Awami Awaz’, was critically injured in a shooting near his village in Ghotki district on May 21 and succumbed to his injuries on May 24 in a Karachi hospital. The case saw a significant development on June 8 when Ghotki police apprehended Asghar Loond, a relative of the accused and one of the main suspects, recovering a weapon, a motorcycle, and three mobile phones linked to the crime.
