Prof accused of torturing ex-wife

MIRPURKHAS, Dec 28: An assistant professor of Mohammadi Medical College has been accused of torturing his estranged wife.

A resident of Satellite town, Syed Mohammad Jahangir Mati, lodged a case with the Satellite town police station on Friday night, stating that his sister Farhana got married three years back with the assistant professor of Mohammad Medical College Mirpurkhas, Dr Abdul Qadir, but their relations remained disturbed as she was tortured by her husband and his brothers as a result of which she decided to leave her husband and started living with the complainant along with her child.

He alleged that a few days ago Dr Abdul Qadir divorced his sister and issued threats of dire consequences in order to obtain the custody of the child.

He further alleged that Dr Abdul Qadir, Nasir Hassan Khan, employee of education department, Jawad and one unknown person barged into his house and beat his sister Dr Farhana and mother Saeeda Kulsoom when they offered resistance for saving her child as the accused were forcibly trying to take the child away.

He said that they hurled threats of dire consequences and escaped when some neighbors reached there. No arrest was made till the filing of this report.
