Prime Minister announces Rs 2 billion for Sindh rain, flood victims

SUKKUR: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Sunday announced a relief package of Rs2 billion rupees for the rain and flood victims of Sindh.

He took an aerial visit of the rain and flood-hit areas, including Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Kashmore and Kandhkot.

On the occasion, the prime minister issued orders for the release of Rs710 million without delay.He directed the concerned authorities to procure 25,000 tents so that victims who lost their homes to rain could be sheltered.

The PM also directed the concerned authorities to leave no victim unassisted while disbursing the funds.PM Ashraf also announced equal relief packages for South Punjab and Balochistan.

He acclaimed the army and provincial government for their relief efforts.Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and some ministers also accompanied the PM.APP adds: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Sunday visited flood-hit areas of Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Kashmore-Kandhkot districts and announced a Rs2 billion relief package for the affected people.

The prime minister, who was here on a day-long visit to witness damages caused by heavy rains and flood, directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to provide at least 25,000 tents, food, medicines and all other facilities to the flood-affected people of Kashmore and Jacobabad districts. He also directed the release of Rs710 million for these areas.

The amount included Rs200 million for Kashmore, Rs200 million for Jacobabad, Rs70 million for Ghotki, Rs100 million for Sukkur and Rs100 million for Mirpurkhas.

The PM said that the federal and Sindh governments would offer support to the flood-affected people to help them recover from the disaster. He said he had seen the damage caused by the heavy rains and assured that the federal government was taking necessary measures to ensure that basic facilities were provided to the people and that their sufferings were mitigated. “I have asked the NDMA and other departments concerned to assist in the rescue and relief efforts,” he said.

The prime minister took an aerial view of Shikarpur, Garhi Yaseen, Tangwani, Ghouspur, Thull, Garhi Khero and other affected areas of the province. He assured all possible support to farmers of the districts whose crops were destroyed by the rains.

“I feel very sad that the people of Sindh have once again become a victim of a natural disaster,” he said, adding that the people of the area were brave and resilient and faced the difficult situation with courage and determination.

The prime minister also directed that the same relief package be finalised for the flood-hit areas of South Punjab and Balochistan. He said that all children, old people and women should get relief. He also appreciated the role of the armed forces and the provincial governments in the relief and rescue operation.

The district coordination officers of Jacobabad and Kashmore briefed the prime minister about the rescue and relief efforts. They said that financial assistance was needed for the rehabilitation of the rain-hit people.

Earlier in the morning, the prime minister arrived at the Sukkur airport along with Interior Minister Rehman Malik and other officials and was received by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah. MNAs and MPAs belonging to flood-his districts were also present on the occasion.
