Press photographer taken into custody, released

ISLAMABAD, MARCH 24: The photographer of a local English language daily, Ishaq Chaudhry, who was picked up by an intelligence agency, was released after 24 hours of interrogation by a joint investigating team.

Mr. Chaudhry was taken into custody by plain-clothes men from his room at a local hostel late on Sunday night. His family and friends could not find any clue to his whereabouts till Monday night when he was released by the agency.

On his release Mr Chaudhry said he had been taken to a police station on the outskirts of the city where he was interrogated. He said he was not subjected to any torture.

Apparently there was no charge against Mr Chaudhry except that he had helped some friends and colleagues in obtaining visas from the Indian high commission.
