President, PM, others greet APNS office-bearers

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and others have felicitated Sarmad Ali and Masood Hamid, the newly-elected President and General Secretary of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) respectively.

President Zardari in his felicitation message said the government believed in independence of the media and had never imposed any restriction on media. The president, highlighting the importance of the APNS for the promotion and protection of journalism, assured that the government would take all possible measures to ensure all facilities to the journalist community.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, in his message, congratulated the newly- elected President of the APNS Sarmad Ali and General Secretary Masood Hamid and the Executive Committee.

The prime minister hoped that the newly-elected office bearers of the APNS would work hard to address the issues of journalist community.Meanwhile, the Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Media, Ms Sharmila Faruqui, has felicitated the newly-elected office bearers of the APNS.

In a statement here on Sunday, she congratulated President Sarmad Ali, Secretary General Masood Hamid and other office bearers including Mehtab Khan and Rameeza Majeed Nizami. — APP

The speaker and deputy speaker expressed the hope that newspapers and publication industry will progress under the guidance of the new APNS leadership and would guide the government to improve governance and formulate pro-people policies besides taking care of the welfare initiatives for the journalistic community.
