At its convention here on Tuesday, the provincial chapter also launched party membership drive and expressed full confidence in the leadership of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and president of the party (women wing) Ms Faryal Talpur.

It termed passage of the 18th amendment a big achievement and vowed to complete the mission of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for the welfare the common man.

The convention was attended by party office-bearers from all the 23 districts and divisional/regional headquarters of Sindh, provincial ministers, including Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Nargis N.D. Khan, Touqeer Fatima, Adviser to Sindh chief minister Sharmila Farooqui, Senator Moula Bux Chandio, Aajiz Dhamrah, Taj Haider, general secretary of the Sindh PPP. Minister of State for Religious Affairs Ms Shagufta Jumani presided over the event. She is also president of the PPP’s women wing of Sindh.

In her presidential address, Ms Shagufta Jumani said that the PPP always kept its door open for the poor people and fought for their rights.

She said that since the PPP represented the poor class, those who had enjoyed luxurious lives in the governments of dictators were hatching conspiracies against the democratic government to regain power.

Taj Haider said it was only the PPP that preferred to rendering sacrifices for the cause of the common man rather than surrendering before dictators.

He said that to surpass the target of 10 million memberships in the province was not a difficult task as Sindh was the stronghold of the PPP.

Senator Moula Bux Chandio said that conspirators could not succeed against the PPP government because the party had roots in the masses.
