PPP HR cell seeks justice for Fakhra, all acid crime victims

KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Human Rights Cell members have expressed deep sorrow on the tragic death of acid crime victim Fakhra Yunus and have sought justice for her.

Central Coordinator of the Cell Nafisa Shah on Tuesday termed Fakhra’s death a sad reflection on the state of the criminal justice system in the country that failed to identify and punish the culprits. In a statement she regretted that in cases, like that of Fakhra, the routine trials fail to punish the culprits.

“How come that 12 years down the road the main accused, responsible for defacing Fakhra Yunus, is enjoying absolute freedom, is a question we all need to ask,” said the coordinator for the PPP Human Rights Cell.

She also registered her reservations about the criminal justice system in the country.

Nafisa Shah said the perpetrators who defaced Fakhra needed to be unmasked and punished.

“Fakhra’s death should not go in vain, and both the courts and the law enforcement agencies especially the police investigation system need to reexamine and revisit the case,” she said.
