Pakistan Press Foundation

Pakistan Press Foundation has expressed concern over the 15 days of administrative detention of Emin Milli, blogger and 2,500 AZN(2.348 EUR) fine on youth activist Turgut Gambar for Facebook activity.

Quoting information from Expression Online Coalition (EOC), PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in a letter to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the main reason for Milli’s detention and fine on Gambar, imposed by the court for using Facebook to make calls for participation in the opposition protest held in the center of Baku on January 26, 2013.

The activists reiterated in their statement and at court hearings that they did nothing illegal by publicize invitations on Facebook for participation in peaceful protest. The court decision states that the activists, who are accused of making calls on Facebook, placed illegal appeals on Facebook and invited citizens to take part in illegal protest and procession.

PPF strongly condemns the detention of Milli and fine imposed on Gambar and urges the government to immediately release of blogger and drop the charges against Gambar and all those who exercise their right to free expression.
