PPF condemns assault on a reporter Mamadou Sakine
Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Macky Sall, President of Senegal has expressed concern over the physical assault of a reporter by a security officer in Dakar, Senegal.
PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter, has condemned the attack on Mamadou Sakine and has urged authorities to thoroughly investigate this case and ensure legal action against the officer involved.
According to Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), On September 3, Mamadou Sakine, a reporter affiliated with newspaper Le Quotidien was on duty outside the Court of Appeal when he spotted a security officer misbehaving with a woman and started taking photographs
When the security officer saw Sakine taking pictures he snatched his mobile. When Sakine tried to get his mobile back the security officer gave him a head-butt. He however returned reporter’s mobile after other journalists present intervened and started protesting against the officer.
Sakine was then taken to hospital for treatment and the medical report indicated violence against him which resulted in a 3-centimetre cut on his upper lip.
Le Quotidien published an article a day after the incident, condemning the violence against its staffer and demanded that the officer be charged with a criminal offence, reported MFWA.
