Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), in a letter to Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria expressed concern over the Charles Otu, a correspondent of the Guardian newspaper, who was badly, assaulted by the armed men allegedly, political thugs at Vanco Junction in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on June 3.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali condemned the attacks on journalists and demanded the thorough and, fair investigation of this assault and also urged your government to ensure the safe environment for journalists to perform their duties without having a fear.

According to Media Rights Agenda, the thugs who accosted and assaulted Otu at the Vanco Junction arrived in a 16-seater Toyota bus with the inscription of Ekubaraoha Youth Assembly.

Assailants later drove him to the `Ebonyi Cabinet Office’ where they threatened him to sign an undertaking never to write any story against the state or he will be silenced permanently.
