Police torture condemned
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court Bar Association has condemned torture of lawyers and a journalist, Ghulam Abbas Shah, in Kasur by the local police and Wapda officials.
Addressing a press conference at the bar on Monday, the LHCBA representatives said some ëmiscreantsà wanted to damage institutions like the independent judiciary and the media only to conceal their wrongdoings.
Acting LHCBA President Munawar Iqbal Gondal, Secretary Muqtadir Akhter Shabbir, Finance Secretary Rai Nawaz Kharal and Kasur Bar Association President Sardar Nabi Ahmad Khan spoke on the occasion. They demanded of the government to take strict actions against the “corrupt” police and Wapda officials and order to withdraw fake cases registered against the lawyers.
On behalf of the LHCBA, Secretary Muqtadir Shabbir assured the lawyers of Kasur of his complete cooperation against the transgression of the authorities and appealed to the Lahore High Court chief justice to take action in this regard.
