Police officials testify in Sui gang-rape case

ISLAMABAD, January 18, 2005:A tribunal of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) on January 17 adjourned the case of the female doctor’s gang rape in Sui at the first hearing. The BHC tribunal consisted of Justice Ahmad Khan Lashari, Online reported.

Special investigation officers including Deputy Superitendent of Police (DSP), Abdul Karim Mengal, DSP Yaqub Butt, Inspector Malik Muhammad Khan, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ilyas and Sub-Inspector Muhammad Jehangir recorded their statements.

Dr Shazia Khalid, victim of alleged criminal assault, told the tribunal in a written application that she could not attend the proceedings for being unwell and would appear before the tribunal later.

Amanullah Tareen, the assistant advocate general, said that Dr Khalid should come to the court and record her statement.

Unidentified men barged into Dr Khalid’s house in the Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Colony in Sui Tehsil of Dera Bugti district last week and allegedly gang-raped her.

Khalid Memood Dogar, a senior police officer in Quetta, told the Associated Press that police had registered a case against three PPL officials, including two doctors, for concealing the attack against the woman and obstructing police.
