Police Inquiry Cleared MNA Khalid Loond and Sons in Journalist Nasrullah Gadani’s Murder Case

Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Khalid Ahmed Loond and his sons, Noor Muhammad Loond and Shahbaz Loond, have been cleared of involvement in the killing of journalist Nasrullah Gadani, as per findings from a recent police inquiry. The hearing has been rescheduled for November 29.

Gadani, who was critically injured in a targeted attack in Mirpur Mathelo in an armed attack on May 21, succumbed to his injuries and passed away on May 24 at a private hospital in Karachi.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tanveer Tunio oversaw the investigation and presented the report to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Ghotki on November 15. The report concluded no evidence implicating MNA Loond or his sons. Instead, the police challan named Asghar Loond, Barkat Loond, Abdullah Loond, and a newly identified suspect, Barkat Latki, as those involved in the case.

Gadani’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the findings, alleging bias in favor of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). Outside the court, Gadani’s brother accused SSP Tunio of partiality and stated that they intend to challenge the report in higher courts. He also claimed to have received threats from the accused, pressuring him to drop the case.

Earlier, Gadani’s mother, Pathani Gadani, and two other eyewitnesses asserted that MNA Khalid Ahmad Loond and his two sons — Shahbaz Ahmad Khan Loond and Noor Mohammad Khan Loond — orchestrated the journalist’s death. According to them, despite substantial evidence, the local police hesitated to include the accused’s names in the First Information Report (FIR) due to their influential status.

In response to the case, the Sindh government suspended Shahbaz Ahmed Khan Loond, the municipal chairman of Mirpur Mathelo, on July 9.
