Police get nod to arrest ‘N’ MPA

By: Asif Chaudhry

LAHORE – Police on Tuesday constituted a team to arrest PML-N MPA Shumaila Rana after she failed to join investigation despite elapsing four days since the registration of case against her.

SP Investigation Model Town Division formed the team to arrest the accused MPA and informed the Speaker Punjab Assembly about possible police action against the PML-N MPA.

According to the police sources, another non-bailable PPC section, 419, has also been added to the FIR registered against Shumaila Rana here on Tuesday showing that police have received a green signal from the Punjab government to take legal action against the accused MPA without being influenced from any quarter.

SP Investigation Zeshan Asghar told The Nation that an ultimate decision has been taken for the arrest of the accused MPA. He said neither she got bail from the court nor she has joined investigations despite police repeated requests causing problems for the law enforcing agency to proceed further in the matter.

To a question, the SP said that police have informed Speaker Punjab Assembly about the police’s decision to arrest Member Provincial Assembly Shumaila Rana in theft case registered against her on the complaint of victim lady Zaira Malik.

Zeshan Asghar said that there was no pressure on the police from any quarter in the said case, which is evident from the fact that police have added four PPC sections to the FIR registered against the PML-N legislator so far.

He said police received instructions from the high-ups concerned to investigate the case purely on merit.

While SP Operations Ayyaz Saleem said that police have no concrete evidences against the accused MPA except some footages of the CCTV installed at a jewellery shop from where she purchased jewellery items which are not sufficient to fix penalty on the accused of the case.

“Police cannot go ahead without getting proper evidences because complainant woman Zaira Malik did not provide the police concrete evidences about the involvement of PML-N MPA in theft case,” the SP said. He said that Zaira even did not visit police station or approach the investigators to justify her allegations against Shumaila Rana.

Both the complainant and the accused of the FIR should join investigations without wasting further time and present evidences in their defence which is the only way to resolve the issue otherwise police have no option other than to take ‘necessary measures’, the SP said.
