PML-N keeps mum on Seraiki province

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has preferred to reserve its response to President Asif Zardari and Pirme Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani’s recent declaration to support a Seraiki province in their party manifesto.

“Will Seraiki speaking areas of Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa also be made part of Seraiki province, and what about people of Bahawalpur who demand the status of a state,” questioned Senator Pervez Rashid, the PML-N spokesman when approached on Tuesday.

The spokesman said PML-N would come out with its clear response and a full-fledged reaction once the government explains the philosophy behind setting up a new province and its would-be geography.

The Nawaz League however said it is neither against new provinces nor it plans to indulge in opposition for the sake of opposition. “We want to go in right direction to address other issues with law and order the top most priority.”

Political pundits believe that the Seraiki province issue could be a hot topic in the coming weeks since a move is already going on to give the Southern Punjab and Bahawalpur areas status of a province.

“Instead of playing politics, Zardari and Gilani need give answer to a number of questions before campaigning for the province which is not the priority in existing circumstances as other issues are hundred time more important than this one,” said PML-N’s key member, Senator Pervez Rashid.
