PML-F women wing angry at allotment of tickets

Karachi: Disagreement over the distribution of party tickets on reserved seats for women is fuelling internal dissent among the PML-F’s women members who have been affiliated with the party since 2000.

Sources said on Tuesday that the party’s media cell chief awarded the tickets to his favourites, including his wife, “as these ticket winners were not the genuine members of the party neither they had any political background”.

The PML-F seems to have become vulnerable to the fissure that has developed as a result of alleged wrangling over awarding party tickets.

“The new faces have sidelined those who have been affiliated with the party for a long time,” complained a member of the party’s women wing.

She said most of the new faces happen to be the favourites of the party’s election cell in-charge and they have sidelined even the founding leaders of the party in the province.

These estranged women members were likely to stage a demo in front of the Functional House to register their protest against this “injustice”, and as an extreme step they might also tender resignation from the party, sources said.

The wife of the election cell in-charge has also been awarded the party ticket, they added. Differences emerged when the district president of PML-F’s women wing from Mirpurkhas was not considered for the reserved seats. A senior leader of the party said that she might have been ignored for being an Urdu speaking.
