PM stresses on promotion of information technology
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Thursday directed the Ministry of Information Technology to develop a project on immediate basis to impart information technology education to students throughout the country with particular focus on the flood affected and less developed areas.
This will provide employment opportunities to the youth and mitigate poverty in the country, he added. He instructed the Secretary of the Information Technology Division to work out modalities of the project within a week.
The Prime Minister gave these directives to the Secretary Information Technology at a high level meeting held at Prime Minister House here.
He directed the Secretary to ensure implementation of his earlier announcements regarding establishment of IT institutes in the less developed areas of the country.
The Prime Minister also asked the Secretary to encourage talented students of the less developed areas by way of award of IT scholarships.
Earlier, the Secretary IT briefed about the progress on the Prime Minister’s directives and announcement for the establishment of IT institutes and universities in various under developed areas.
He apprised the Prime Minister of the details of PM ICT Graduate Programme which was launched in 2008.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Khushnood Akhtar Lashari, Secretary IT Saeed Ahmed Khan and other senior officers.
