Pir Hussamuddin remembered on 37th death anniversary

THATTA: Internationally acclaimed scholar, journalist, historian, writer and academician Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi was remembered at a well-attended ceremony held in Makli on Monday to observe his 37th death anniversary.

Eminent literary figures, historians, archaeologists and intellectuals paid homage to the great scholar at the ceremony organised by the Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi Yadgar Committee.

Speaking to the audience, the committee’s spokesman, Nafees Ahmed Nashad, Sindh Institute of Music and Performing Arts (SIMPA) director Nasir Mirza, Mr and Mrs Aadil Rashdi, N.A. Bloch Institute of Heritage and Research director Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi, Dr Qazi Khadim, Shaukat Hussain Shoro, Obayo Khushik, Madad Ali Sindhi and others acknowledged Pir Rashidi’s great contributions to the education, literature, history and other fields.

They said the scholar had command on Sindhi, Persian and English languages.

They said he rendered unmatched services in the area of learning. His love love for the motherland was evident from his more than 300 books, writeups and columns published in numerous newspapers and journals, they said, and noted that a considerable number of his books were on the history of Sindh and its importance in terms of language, culture and heritage.

Syed Sher Ali Shah, Mir Ali Sher Qanea, Madad Ali Sindhi and others called for establishing an institute to be named after Pir Hussamuddin Rashdi so that his unaccomplished works could be completed to the benefit of the younger generation.

As part of the programme, floral wreaths were laid on the mazar of Pir Rashdi on behalf of the forums and culture department.
