Shazia Ali Khan’s debut feature film, Pinky Memsaab, may not have had a fair chance in Pakistan but the film has been consistently doing well across the globe. It was removed from cinemas across Pakistan just after a few shows, but it managed to make a mark on various international platforms.

The latest addition to the list is the recently concluded UK Asian Film Festival 2019 that not only screened the film on the closing night but also honored it with Best Picture (Audience Choice) trophy.

The film was screened at the Closing Reception of the 21st edition of the UKAFF London that was attended by writer-director of the film Shazia Ali Khan, and actors Hajra Yamin, Kiran Malik and Adnan Jaffar, who essay prominent roles in the film.

Addressing the audience after receiving the award, Shazia Ali Khan said in her acceptance speech, “I didn’t expect this at all. I have nothing but gratitude for the organizers here, who showcased this film at the festival, and the audience. This is the biggest honour for us that people who watched the film here, they liked it. I personally lost a lot during this film; I lost my dad all of a sudden. This was my first project and I thought things would never get bright again, but I guess someone up there is watching us. A big thank you to my acting team and my producers who believed in me.”

Pinky Memsaab is now available on Netflix while Hajra Yamin has been nominated in the ‘Best Actress’ category at the Lux Style Awards 2019 for her performance in the film.
