PFUJ slams minister’s statement
KARACHI, Jan 15: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has criticized the remarks attributed to Federal Information Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmad in a section of the Press suggesting that newsmen should accept the seventh wage award according to the formula given by newspaper owners.
In a statement on Thursday, PFUJ president Ahfazur Rahman said the minister was quoted as telling a delegation of an “Association of Metropolitan Press Clubs” in Rawalpindi that journalists should agree to the newspaper owners’ suggestion that the wage award should be implemented only for journalists.
The PFUJ president said the award was for newspaper employees and was instituted under an act passed by parliament. The minister should have endeavoured to ask the newspaper owners to abide by the law, he added.
