PFUJ not backed by any political party: Pervez Shaukat
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has clarified that it is an independent body and is not backed by any political party or group.
In a press release, the PFUJ said the 62-year history of the Union is testimony to the fact that its biannual elections remained totally non-political and its contesting candidates had never sought support from any political party or group in the election process.
PFUJ President Pervez Shaukat and other new elected office bearers strictly denied the report that the recent elected PFUJ office bearers were backed by the MQM. They said that the Union respects all political parties that supported the journalists’ struggle for resolution of their problems especially the implementation of the Wage Board Award. The newly elected body clarified that they respected the MQM support for the cause of journalists however, the party has no role in PFUJ’s internal affairs particularly elections.
