PFUJ condemns iron rods attack on Abbotabad journalist; demands to protect journalists
KARACHI: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has condemned attack on senior journalist and general secretary of Abbottabad Union Of Journalists.
Sardar Shafiq, who worked for a local Urdu daily, left his office late in the night when three men intercepted him.They then started thrashing him with iron rods, leaving him critically injured.
In a statement, PFUJ President Pervaiz Shaukat and Secretary General Amin Yousuf condemned the attack on Shafiq. “We condemn violence against journalists. Such acts would not deter journalists from raising their voice,” the PFUJ leaders said.
They also called on the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to arrest the culprits at the earliest and provide security to journalists in the volatile region.
Mr Pervaiz Shaukat also called KP Minister for Health Shaukat Yousafzai and sought proper medical treatment for Shafiq.
He also called on the provincial government to take necessary measures to control the attack on journalists.
