Pervaiz Rashid inaugurates Pakistani film festival in Minsk

MINSK: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervaiz Rashid on Tuesday inaugurated a Pakistani film festival, being held here to introduce Pakistan to the people of Belarus and coincide with the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is on a three-day visit to Belarus in a bid to explore new avenues of cooperation and build stronger people-to-people ties.

The opening ceremony was held here at the Tsentralny cinema house. It was also attended by Belarus Culture Minister Boris Svetlov. The first film on the programme will be Bin Roye , a Pakistani romantic drama that was released in July 2015 and was based on a story of the Pakistani writer Farhat Ishtiaq.

The Information Minister, in his brief remarks, said there was a wide scope of cooperation between the two counties in diverse fields. He said interaction in education, culture and trade would help create better understanding between the two peoples and lead to increased economic activity.

He expressed the hope that the film festival would serve to be the first drop of rain in the cooperation of the film makers of the two countries. He said film was the most powerful mass media as it helped remove misconceptions and bring different cultures and nations closer.

He said Pakistan’s film industry was reviving and hoped that both the countries would learn from each other’s experiences and share their expertise.

The film festival coincides with the holding of a mango festival aimed at introducing the Pakistani king of fruits to the people of Belarus.

Belarusian Minister for Culture Boris Svetlov also appreciated the introduction of Pakistani film in Minsk and hoped it would help create better understanding between the two cultures.He said the festival was the result of an agreement inked between the two countries in May during the visit of President of Belarus to Pakistan.
The movie got a very good response from the local people, as it was a jam packed show, with people enjoying the story line, songs and cinematography.
