Performers mesmerise audience at ‘Pakistan Cultural Week’

ISLAMABAD: Artists, performers and dancers on Wednesday enthralled the audience with their outstanding performances during the Pakistan Cultural Week celebrations at Lok Virsa. The formal inauguration ceremony was held at the National Art Gallery, which included performances by pop singer Hadiqa Kiyani, and folk singers Ashiq Jatt, Shazia Khushk, Akhtar Channal and Haseena Naz. Though all the artists performed well, the performances of Hadiqa Kiani and Akhtar Channal were greatly admired.

Hadiqa Kiani, who started singing in 1995 with her debut album Raaz, has won numerous awards in the country and abroad. She has released five albums. Akhtar Chanal’s distinctive voice carries with it the stories of this great singer’s birthplace – the fields of Balochistan, where young shepherds are raised to the tunes of regional folk songs while they work.

Folk dancers included the famous Kalash group, Cholistani dance group, Balochi Leva group, Sindhi dance party and traditional drummers (Dholis) from Punjab. The PNCA folkloric ensemble ‘Taxila Odyessi’ also performed on the occasion. The event also included an exhibition of cultural heritage and an arts and craft bazaar.

In addition to this, traditional floats representing all federating units, installation of 24 entrance gates on highways and busy roads, decoration and beautification of different chowks and roundabouts on various themes, stage plays, on-the-spot activities, special attractions for families.

Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid, while talking to APP, urged to the people to help Lok Virsa by attending the celebrations in large numbers, giving a message of unity, peace, love, tolerance and harmony amongst the nation.
