Pemra refuses to hire expensive lawyer

ISLAMABAD: Pemra refused to appoint Saif-ul-Malook as the counsel of the authority in the Supreme Court in the cable operators case to be heard today (TUESDAY) despite pressure from high-ups.

Saiful Malook was given briefings regarding the issue of putting Geo News another channel off air by the relevant pemra officials but Saiful Malook told pemra that he will charge Rs 5m for representing the authority in the apex court.

Though the top pemre management was under extreme pressure but as it has no money and is already about to default. Chairman Pemra Mushtaq Malik when approached by The News said that during the last hearing the AG had little time and thus Pemra considered the idea to hire a private lawyer.

“Someone asked me about Saiful Malook but when I came to know about the fees I straightforwardly refused to hire him as Pemra cannot afford him.”
