PEMRA Rebuts Report
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has contradicted a news item published in The News on Tuesday concerning the hearing of Media Commission case in the Supreme Court.
In a statement on Tuesday, the authority said an out of context statement of Mr. AD Kharral about Pemra and its chairman had been quoted in the paper which was absolutely incorrect, baseless and frivolous as no such statement was uttered during the court’s proceeding. The news report said: “During the hearing, AD Kharral, another petitioner, informed the court that in May this year the NAB had issued a notice to PEMRA Chairman in a corruption case, while in 2010 the FIA registered a corruption case against him”.
“This is totally misleading. No such remarks were made by person named AD Kharral in the court. This can be further substantiated through the lawyers of Geo group or any other independent source which would also confirm that these remarks were never uttered in the court.”
