Pemra moves against cable operators

KARACHI – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Sindh Region conducted raids on October 13, against illegal cable TV operators relaying pornographic channels, programmes in the vicinity of SITE area, Hyderabad, Kotri and Dadu.

A handout issued on October 13, said the software/ programmes also included objectionable pornographic content, which was against cultural and traditional values of the Pakistani society and also contravened Pemra’s code of conduct.

The team seized two head ends besides confiscating the equipment of illegal and default cable operators. Pemra Sindh had already warned cable operators that the authority would take firm action against the cable operators violating the code of conduct and Pemra’s rules and regulations.

Waseem Ahmed, Regional General Manager, Pemra Sindh region, stressed the need for self-regulation by society for self-censorship of TV contents.

Pemra Sindh has further informed the subscribers that they could contact 111-736-111 for complaints against cable TV operators, FM radio and satellite channels for poor services or misconduct.
