Pemra issues show-cause notice to FM radio

ISLAMABAD (July 11 2007): Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has served a show-cause notice to an FM radio asking it to explain why penalty should not be imposed for flouting the code of conduct.

The code of conduct says that no programme shall be aired which is likely to encourage and incite violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national or anti-state attitudes.

The Pemra in its show-cause notice has referred to the clause 1(f) of the code of conduct for media broadcasters/cable TV operators that no programme shall be aired which is likely to encourage and incite violence or contains anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national or anti-state attitudes.

The company has been asked to immediately stop aforementioned violations and also show cause by July 21 as to why not penalty should be imposed upon it and/or its licence be revoked.

The Pemra said that it has been observed that Power FM 99 has been airing programmes which are in violation of above referred clauses and fall out of legal mandate conferred upon the company.
