Pemra destroys 200 illegal Indian DTH decoders

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to curb the menace of illegal Indian DTH proliferating Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Regional Office Karachi held ceremony to destroy more than 200 illegal Indian Direct to Home (DTH) decoders confiscated by the regional office.

The decoders were confiscated during the crackdowns against Cable TV operators of Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, said a press release issued here Tuesday. Chairperson Council of Complaints Karachi Prof. Inam Bari was also present in the ceremony.

In ongoing drive during four months Pemra enforcement teams have confiscated and destroyed about 3000 illegal DTH decoders across the country. Similar ceremonies to destroy those equipment were held at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore.

Muhammad Farooq, RGM Sindh Pemra briefing the media said that the crackdown had been launched against cable TV operators providing cable TV services by using signal of illegal Indian DTH in violation of Pemra laws. Besides these illegal DTH are also a source of distribution of illegal and unlicensed channels in Pakistan in violation of Pemra laws.
