PEMRA, cable operators agree on channels

LAHORE- Programmes of 48 television channels approved by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) will be transmitted by the cable operators in the city district.

An agreement to this effect was reached at a meeting between the Lahore Cable Operators Association and the district coordination officer convened by the Community Development Department of the city district government here on July 25th, 2003 to discuss complaints about the transmission of programmes of banned television channels, recordings of stage plays and music programmes.

The District Coordination Officer (DCO) told the cable operators that the city district government would not tolerate transmission of obscene programmes and banned television channels on the cable network. Cases would be registered against those violating the agreement.

The DCO has constituted a committee consisting of theatre owners, playwrights, stage artistes and CDG officials for formulating a code of conduct for the theatre within a month.

The committee will suggest measures for ridding the stage plays of obscenity and vulgar dialogues and action against the artistes violating the code of conduct.

Executive District Officer (Community Development) Zahid Aziz Khan will act as the convener of the committee comprising Ghayur Akhtar, Firdaus Jamal, Masood Akhtar, Irfan Khoosat, Jamil Bismil, Iftikhar Haider, C. M. Munir, Munir Raj, Nahid Khanum, Madiha Shah, Kanwal, Roohi Khan, Mian Asad Aftab, Mian Ahmad Miraj, Malik Mohsin, Iqbal Tahir, Frahat and Dr Syed Nadeemul Hasan Gilani.
