ISLAMABAD: Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here Friday issued notice to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) acting chairman Pervez Rathkore in the contempt of court application by two private Pemra members —Israr Ahmed Abbasi and Fareeha Iftikhar.

The petitioners had contended that acting Pemra chairman Pervez Rathore has been still functioning despite orders of the IHC dated June 9. Israr Abbasi and Fareeha Iftikhar challenged the appointment of Rathore as acting chairman Pemra, and the IHC Justice Qureshi on June 09 had ordered that “status quo shall be maintained.”

Israr Ahmed Abbasi and Malik Tahir advocate forwarded arguments in this matter. Justice Qureshi, while hearing the case, observed that let all the concerned parties appear before the court, and we will decide after hearing their version as well. The Court then adjourned this matter for 10 days.

After the proceedings in this matter, Justice Qureshi inquired of Additional Attorney General (AAG) Tariq Mehmood Khokhar if he had been sitting in this court to hear this case. Upon which the AAG said that he was just listening the proceedings in this matter.

Justice Qureshi, expressing his displeasure over the recent situation, said that “now they have altered the ways to hide absurdity.” It is beyond comprehension that why don’t they control the overpowering steeds maligning and ridiculing the judiciary. A Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Sana Ullah Zahid said that the court may be indicating toward the law officers. Upon which Justice Qureshi said that he is indicating toward those who arise at 12 in the noon and use fowl language against the hardworking members of judiciary. Upon this DAG Zahid said that all the law officers were behind the court providing strength to the judiciary. Legal fraternity has struggled for the independence of judiciary, and it would let no one to malign the legal institutions.Talking to this correspondent, DAG Zahid said that Justice Qureshi was talking about the malicious campaigners at TV channels ridiculing judiciary.
