Pearl case convicts seek transfer to Karachi prison

HYDERABAD- The authorities of the Hyderabad Central Jail on November 20, 2002 forwarded applications of Daniel Pearl case convicts to the inspector-general of Sindh prisons, regarding their transfer to the Karachi Central Prison.

The jail authorities forwarded these applications without any recommendation after keeping these pending for 11 days, it is learnt. The four convicts of US journalist Daniel Pearl murder case, Omar Sheikh — condemned to death — Adil Sheikh, Syed Salman alias Salman Saqib and Fahd Naseem — sentenced to life imprisonment — had submitted applications for transfer to central prison Karachi on November 9 on the common reason that their parents face difficulties in coming from Karachi to Hyderabad to meet them and to return to Karachi.

The incharge superintendent of Central Prison Hyderabad, who is the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prisons Sindh and holding additional charge of Central Prison Hyderabad, has forwarded their applications with the remarks, “For perusal and further action”, it is learnt.
