PCP forms advisory body on media ethics

ISLAMABAD: Press Council of Pakistan (PCP) Chairman Raja Shafqat Abbasi has approved the constitution of Advisory Committee of Academia to assist the PCP on the issues related to the media ethics, their promotion and inclusion of ethics in curriculum, etc, and to give recommendations in this regard.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the committee includes: Dr Ahsan Akhtar Naz, Director, Institution of Communication Studies, University of Punjab; Dr Farzana Bari, Head, Department of Gender Studies, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad; Dr Zafar Iqbal, Head, Department of Media and Communication Studies, International Islamic University, Islamabad; Dr Rafia Taj, Chairperson, Department of Mass Communication, University of Karachi; Dr Syed Abdul Siraj, Chairman, Department of Mass Communication, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad; Dr Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Chairman, Department of Mass Communication, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan; Sheikh Muhammad Anwar, In-charge, Department of Mass Communication, Government College University, Faisalabad; Dr Chang Rizwana, In-charge/Chairperson, Department of Mass Communication, University of Sindh, Jamshoro; Prof Dr Mughees Uddin Sheikh, Dean Superior University, Raiwind Road, Lahore; Dr Anjum Zia, Head, Department of Mass Communication, Lahore College for Women University, Lahore; Yousaf Masih, In-Charge, Media and Journalism Department, University of Balochistan, Quetta; Dr Shafique Jallandhry, Chairman, Department of Media and Communication, Karakuram International University, Gilgit and Syed Shaukat Ali Shah, Chairman, Department of Mass Communication, Hazara University, Mansehra.

The PCP chairman hoped that the advisory committee, formed on the recommendations of national conference on ‘Media Ethics — Theory and Practice’ organized by the PCP on June 28-29, 2012, would play an effective role in media development in the country.
