PBA condemns attack on TV channel office

KARACHI (June 19 2008): Pakistan Broadcasters Association has strongly condemned the unwarranted attack on the offices of Kook TV in Multan by some unidentified miscreants that resulted in injuries to two journalists of its Multan bureau and causing serious loss to equipment and property.

Pakistan Broadcasters Association, in a statement issued by their Secretariat on Wednesday, called upon the local administrative machinery and the political government to take the responsible of this heinous act to task and ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future. Salman Iqbal, Chairman PBA, stressed that these incidents only harm and hinder the process of democracy, as freedom of expression is the fundamental essence of civil democratic society.

“These incidents are engineered to malign the democratically elected government and their infallible commitment for a free media,” he added. Salman expressed concern for the injured journalist, and extended full support to Kook TV. Attack on offices of one TV channel is in fact an attack on all media, the statement said.-
