Parents butcher daughter for marrying of her free will

Kamran Mansoor

Karachi: The young mother of a six-month-old baby was brutally axed to death by none other than her very own parents for marrying a man of her choice, said the police on Tuesday.

Twenty-two-year-old Husun Bibi was killed and her 35-year-old husband Ashraf injured when the young woman’s parents along with her uncle attacked the couple with an axe at their residence near the Cheragh Hotel which lies within the Pirabad police limits.
The assailants managed to flee the scene of the crime after carrying out the brutal act.

Despite receiving severe injuries, Ashraf managed to gather the strength to cry out for help, which came in the form of a neighbour who rushed to the scene of the crime and saw the couple lying in a pool of blood.

According to the police, the deceased was the mother of a six-month-old daughter and hailed from Swat. Husun Bibi and Ashraf decided to elope from their native city and come to Karachi, where they tied the knot. Around two days ago, Husun called her mother to break the news of the birth of her baby daughter.

The mother immediately demanded Husun’s address, which the 22-year-old promptly provided.

It is believed that Husun’s father Gul Qamar and her mother came to the city around two days ago along with her uncle Syed Qamar. The assailants barged into the house of the couple early in the morning and axed Husun to death, while Ashraf was injured during the attack.

In a separate incident, 60-year-old Zareen Bibi was shot dead, while her 24-year-old daughter Neelam and 32-year-old neighbour Watan Bibi were injured when Ali opened fire on the women after an argument at their residence in Tauheed Colony located near Dawood Chowrangi. The incident took place within the Quaidabad police limits.

The assailant managed to flee from the scene of the crime after shooting his victims. Zareen Bibi’s husband Shams Akber rushed the injured to hospital.

However, Zareen Bibi breathed her last while she was being transported to the medical facility.

The police said that the husband of the deceased had informed them that his daughter Neelam had a domestic dispute with her husband and came away to her parents’ residence.

Shams had called for a jirga at his residence and during the meeting, the accused, Ali, arrived at the scene and opened fire on the victims.
