Pakistani short films seem to be doing well on international front. The latest addition to the list is Dia that will be screened at different international platforms this year.

Directed by filmmaker Hamza Bangash, the short had its premiere in London on Tuesday (January 15) at the prestigious platform of BAFTA-qualifying London Short Film Festival (LSFF). Dia will also be screened at the Dhaka International Film Festival today (January 16), Bangladesh followed by its screening at Jaipur International Film Festival, India on January 22, 2019.

CityLights Media Productions, helmed by playwright and filmmaker Hamza Bangash, shared the good news on their official Instagram handle. “January is a big month for us, as Dia, [the film] continues to go strong into 2019 with 3 screenings across two continents! Our film is beginning the first month of the New Year by travelling to London Short Film Festival, followed by Dhaka International Film Festival, and then Jaipur International Film Festival,” read the post.

The team also thanked their fans and followers for all the support they have received. “Thank you for all the love and support through 2018, and we look forward to continue bringing you new short films in 2019 that will excite, provoke and spark a conversation.”

To create daring cinema that promotes marginalized stories in Pakistan, the production company specializes in bold and socially-driven content and this is exactly what Dia is about. It revolves around the life of Mariam (essayed by Nida Khan) and focuses on mental illness, which is still considered a taboo in our society.
