Pakistan Television transmitter installed at Thatta

THATTA- Federal Minister for Information and Media Development Nisar A. Memon, on the inauguration ceremony of a 500 KV transmitter of Pakistan Television (PTV) at Makli, Thatta October 2002, said that both print and electronic media are free to express their views and the government has allowed the private sector to open their radio and TV channel.

The Information Minister said the print media is free to publish everything and there were no restrictions on the press from the government side. Even, most of the newspapers published critical items in their newspapers, but no action was taken against those newspapers.

For the first time, the government has given a free hand to the state-owned electronic media and during the election process, all the political parties were given equal opportunities to present their point of views.

The Pakistan Television (PTV) has started an independent channel for news and views, which is being viewed in many countries of the world.

The Information Minister congratulated the citizens of Thatta and said the installation of a TV transmitter is a result of their struggle.

He also congratulated the team of PTV for completion of the work within a shortest possible time.

Memon pointed out that work on PTV transmitter has been completed within two weeks.

In his welcome address, Deputy Managing Director of PTV Akhtar Viqar Azeem said that with the installation of transmitter the people of Thatta and its surrounding areas would be able to watch PTV transmission very clearly.

He said PTV is improving its network in Sindh.

The General Manger of PTV Karachi Station Athar Viqar Azeem also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, on his arrival at Makli near Thatta, the Federal Minister inaugurated the transmitter. PTV engineers explained him the working of the transmitter. The PTV transmitter has a range to cover area of 50 km radius.
