Pakistan Television (PTV) to go ahead with telecast in North America

ISLAMABAD- Television will go ahead with the telecast of its programmes in North America, as a court has granted a stay in its favour after few of a suit against Scandinavian Satellite System (SSS), said PTV. The decisions have already been conveyed to the lawyers of SSS in the US,’ the national channel said.

A PTV spokesman said PTV entered into a commercial arrangement with Kelly Broadcasting Corporation and M/s. SSI to telecast its programmes in North America. The spokesman said a decision has been taken at the ministry level to launch the transmission in North America. He said that there is no direct agreement/contract with Raja Nasir of Scandinavian Satellite System. ‘All decisions taken by PTV are not one-man decisions, they are approved by the Board of Directors and also have the blessings of the ministry,” he said.

“Raja Nasir’s claims are absolutely baseless and untrue sponsored by some American businessman who want to stop PTV transmission for personal gains, as he is also trying to promote his channel in North America,’ he said. “But in presence of PTV in North America, the commercial gain of another channel are seriously threatened,’ he said.

The spokesman also said that it is learnt that Raja Nasir Hussain has filed a case in a US court. “PTV is undertaking all necessary measures to counter the suit and inform the US court about the accurate facts, the decision of Pakistani courts and the status of the agreement,” he added.

The spokesman said MD PTV has filed a suit against Raga Nasir Hussain and his company, Scandinavian. Satellite System and has claimed Rs 15 crore 15 lac for libel and slander, malicious circulation of allegations, mental tension and other heads.

The suit has been filed on behalf of PTV MD by Ahmed Bilal Soofi, advocate Supreme Court and is pending before Arshad Hussain Civil Judge. Despite notices issued for the last four dates of hearings, the defendants Raja Nasir and his company have not made appearance, he said.
