Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), an independent non-governmental institution committed to promoting and defending freedom of expression has written a letter to Mr. Mauricio Macri, President of Argentina to express concern over the beating and attack on team of journalists with Grupo Cronica group’s television news channel by people belonging to Union Tranvarious Automotor (Vehicle Drivers Union UTA) in Argentina.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in a letter to President Macri urged the government to identify the attackers, prosecute them and ensure the safety of media personnel in Argentina.

On December 17, 2015, reporter Maria Ines Cristante, cameraman Fabian Lemma and camera assistant Matias Carrizo were covering a protest demonstration by drivers working for transportation company Aguila Dorada when they were beaten, kicked and attacked with stones by people belonging to the UTA.

Cristante was interviewing drivers when UTA members started assaulting her. They beat cameraman and his assistant who were taken to hospital for blows to the head and face. Their video camera and filming material was also destroyed.

This is the fourth attack on press freedom suffered in the last three years by Grupo Cronicagroup’s television news channel in Argentina.
