ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) president Afzal Butt has thanked Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial for taking suo moto notice of senior journalist Arshad Sharif’s killing.

While talking on ARY News’ programme Bakhabar Sawera, the PFUJ president said the killing of Arshad Sharif in Kenya is in fact murder of Pakistan’s journalism and they have been demanding the UN level probe or an investigation by the higher judiciary in the case.

“We are thankful to the CJP who has taken notice of Arshad Sharif’s killing.”

Afzal Butt questioned for what reason the government was delaying the registration of FIR for 42 days and also regretted not consulting with the mother of the deceased journo.

It was the government’s responsibility to consult the mother of Arshad Sharif before the registration of FIR, the PFUJ president said.

Following the orders of CJP Justice Umar Ata Bandial, the Islamabad police registered a first information report (FIR) against the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif without consulting the martyr’s mother on Tuesday evening.

According to details, the Islamabad police have registered a first information report (FIR) against the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif following orders from the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial.
