Pakistan and Iran Aim to Strengthen Media and Economic Ties

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, underscored the importance of increased media collaboration between Pakistan and Iran during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam in Islamabad.

The discussion included the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Associated Press of Pakistan and Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency, as well as potential agreements between Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, Pakistan Television, and their Iranian counterparts.

The two nations also explored opportunities for enhancing economic cooperation, particularly within the Economic Cooperation Organization framework, East-West corridor, and collaboration on seaports.

Both sides expressed commitment to fostering bilateral ties and discussed matters such as cultural exchange, trade relations, and Iran Expo-2024. The Iranian Ambassador highlighted the opening of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting bureau office in Islamabad, aiming to strengthen communication cooperation.

Murtaza Solangi emphasized the deep religious, cultural, and linguistic ties between Pakistan and Iran, welcoming Iran’s cultural delegation to enhance cultural connections.

In addition, the Caretaker Minister briefed the Iranian Ambassador on measures taken for the upcoming general elections in Pakistan, emphasizing the interim government’s commitment to ensuring transparent, fair, and impartial elections with full support to the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The Iranian Ambassador commended the caretaker government’s dedication to holding fair elections. Both parties exchanged views on Iran Expo-2024, with Murtaza Solangi expressing Pakistan’s determination to collaborate with Iran for bilateral economic growth through the event.

The Iranian Ambassador echoed the sentiment, envisioning Iran Expo-2024 as a dynamic platform for business entities from both countries. The expo is expected to provide a significant opportunity for promoting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
