Pak poet to get Cross for Peace Award

rawalpindi – On the International Day of Red Cross and Red Crescent, the World Union of Poets has announced ‘Cross for Peace Award’ for three famous poets of the world.

The poets who will be awarded CPA included Prof Ernesto Kahan (Nobel Peace Prize winner), Prof Muhammad Shanazar (famous Pakistani poet and translator) and Dr Jernail Singh Anand (famous poet and Indian writer).

The Cross of Peace is lifetime achievements award for the efforts they contributed for world peace through poetry.
The award was decided, announced and conferred by Silvano Bortolazzi, the founder of the World Union of Poets.

The awardees will be honoured with a citation, and a plaque at a specially convened function to felicitate them, later this year. Talking to The Nation yesterday, Muhammad Shanazar said that though these achievements are his personal yet he feels these are the achievements of his motherland.

Pakistani writers are very talented and they are doing well to augment image of Pakistan as a peace-loving country, but the need of the hour is to describe their thoughts in some global language which may
mitigate distances among the people of the continents. He informed that he has translated more than one thousand poems of contemporary poets and they are further being translated into other languages.

On the other hand, announcing the Life Time Achievement Award, Knight Silvano Bortolazzi stated that peace is the prime need of the earth for its survival and growth into a heaven.
He applauded the three personages for their individual and collective participation in the process of bringing peace to the war-torn world, through their poetry.
Muhammad Shanazar Pakistani famous poet has been working for peace through poetry for the last 20 years.
He has authored a book “The Dance of Darkness” consisting of 250 poems, most of them are the poems against war. Besides, he translated more than 1,000 poems on peace of the contemporary poets.

Moreover, the West African state Ghana, Pentasi B World Poetry Friendship Ghana, Anglican Church Accra Ghana, Pan Writers’ Association Ghana and other allied literary organisations have announced a literary award ‘The Poet of Universal Inspiration’ for Muhammad Shanazar, which will be presented to him by Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of UN in the official ceremony scheduled to be held on 22nd May 2016.
Before the award is conferred, a laurel will be placed on his head and his inspirational message will be made a part of the world history of literature.
The third award for Muhammad Shanazar “The World Ambassador of Naji Namaan Foundation for Gratis Culture” has been announced by Naji Namaan Foundation FGC Lebanon.
It will officially be announced on the World Day of Culture on 19th May 2016.
