Resolutions adopted unanimously

These resolutions were presented by suspending the daily business of the Assembly.

The normal business included a question-hour on planning and development, bills on ‘Women University Multan’ and ‘The Lahore Canal Heritage Park Bill 2012’.

Earlier, the PML-N, PML-Q and PPP MPAs had decided to support the resolutions during meetings of their respective parliamentary parties.

The PML-N is essentially in favour of restoring the status of Bahawalpur while the PPP and PML-Q are seeking to create of ‘Janoobi’ Punjab province.

APP adds: Punjab Assembly through two different resolutions urged the central government to immediately constitute a national commission for creation of ‘Southern Punjab’ province and restoration of Bahawalpur’s status of province.

Leaders of opposition parties Raja Riaz Ahmed, PPP, Chaudhry Zaheerud Din, PML-Q, Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood of PML (Functional) and MMAs Ali Haider Noor Niazi in their speeches openly endorsed the resolutions, saying the creation of new provinces was imminent to remove the sense of deprivation among the people of the neglected areas of the country.

PPP’s Raja Riaz Ahmed said that they were backing the resolution as they wanted to sacrifice everything for the sake of the masses.

The status of Bahawalpur, he opined, must be restored.

He urged the other provinces to also contribute towards that end.

Through these resolutions the federal government has been urged to set up a National Commission immediately to examine all aspects – constitutional, administrative, legal, financial – in relation to restoration of Bahawalpur as a province and creation of ‘Janoobi’ Punjab province, according to Aaj News. The House through these resolutions said the proposed Election Commission should submit its recommendations at the earliest, the channel added.
