Over Rs2.5bn drawn through Watan cards, says Nadra

KARACHI: Over 225,000 flood-affected families have so far drawn over Rs2.5 billion through the ‘Watan’ cards issued by the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), according to an official of the authority.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Nadra deputy chief Tariq Malik said that more than 300,000 Watan cards had so far been issued to flood-affected families and the figure constituted 65 per cent of the number of these cards issued in Punjab.

Each of the card-holder is entitled to draw an amount of Rs25,000 from a designated bank, he said, adding that Watan cards were being issued through the 45 Nadra centres operating in Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mr Malik said that Nadra had processed about 135,000 applications for fresh and duplicate CNICs in lieu of the lost or damaged cards of flood-hit people free of cost.
