Over 40m children suffer from abuse, neglect’
KARACHI, April 21 2006: In visit arranged by UNICEF a group of Boys Scouts and Girls Guides from Balochistan visited the Madadgar Help Line on April 20 where they were acquainted with the referral and guidance services being offered to child victims of violence and abuse in the city.
While presenting an overview of their services, President Lawyers for Human Rights & Legal Aid (LHRLA), Zia Ahmed Awan informed the visitors of the grim reality that over 40 million children worldwide suffer from abuse and neglect, thus making child protection a global issue.
He said that each child, regardless of factors such as age, gender, nationality ethnicity or religion, has an inalienable right to grow and develop to his or her full potential in a safe and protective environment and that civil society organisation play a vital role in facilitating the realisation of this goal.
