Opposition’s multiparty moot condemns Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman’s arrest
KARACHI/ LAHORE: The participants of a multiparty conference, called by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Tuesday condemned the growing atmosphere of media coercion and the restrictions on the freedom of speech.
While speaking at the conference through video link, the opposition leaders severely criticised the arrest of Jang/Geo Editor-in-Chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a fake property case. They demanded immediate release of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman and stressed government to focus on solving Pakistan’s urgent issues instead of pursuing political vendettas.
The meeting also urged payment of all dues of the media on urgent basis so that they could effectively play their role as the fourth pillar of the state.
