Olympics coverage and PTV

Let’s give credit where and when it’s due. PTV’s coverage of the recently concluded London 2012 Olympic Games was nice. It did what it could to telecast most number of events, bearing in mind that all other networks in the world were doing the same through multiple TV channels.

The fact that PTV put the events on air live and exclusive was commendable. However, if an event of such magnitude is to be covered next time, the state-run channel should at least reconsider a couple of things. One, bring in seasoned sportsmen with language skills to host the show. Two, there’s no harm in showing synchronised swimming. It is a fantastic event which is all about talent and skill, not talent and skin.

By the way, whoever thought of bringing in Aamir Sohail as an expert for the concluding ceremony deserves to be applauded. The ex-cricketer has become a sound TV anchor. He intelligently brought in the technical aspect of Olympic events such as why Usain Bolt uses the longer strides at a later stage in his sprint. His three younger colleagues could learn a lot from him.
