Offensive stuff on website Court tells MPA to contact PTA

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court chief justice on Tuesday disposed of a writ petition filed by PML-Q MPA Moonis Elahi seeking a ban on “Google Blogger” and directed the petitioner to approach Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) chairman first for remedy.

Earlier, a deputy attorney general, Tanvir Hashmi, told the court that a complete blockade of the website was not possible.

However, he said, link of the allegedly offensive material on the website against the petitioner could be deleted. And PTA was the appropriate forum for this purpose, he added.

At this the chief justice directed the petitioner to file an application to PTA chairman who would decide it in accordance with the law.

Moonis Elahi, through his counsel, had prayed that the authorities be directed to block the access to “Google Blogger” in Pakistan and the owner of this website be directed to honour international conventions guaranteeing fundamental rights of every citizen.

He also requested the court to direct the owners of the website to immediately remove the alleged hate material against the petitioner.
