Noted writer Siraj Memon laid to rest

KARACHI: Renowned Sindhi intellectual writer, journalist and senior lawyer of Supreme Court Sirajul Haq Memon was laid to rest at DHA graveyard in Karachi on Sunday. He passed away in the city on Saturday at the age of 79. His funeral prayers were offered after Zohr prayers at Sultan mosque phase-V, DHA.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Musheer Alam, Senator Raza Rabbani, Senator Saeed Ghani, PPP leader Taj Haider, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, provincial ministers Murad Ali Shah, Jam Mahtab Dahar, Nadeem Bhutto, Adil Siddiqui, Saghir Ahmed, MPAs Imdad Pitafi, Sikandar Shoro, Fayyaz Butt, Dr Sattar Rajpar, Rashid Rabbani, senior lawyer Mujeeb Pirzado, former city Nazim Naimatullah Khan, former chief secretary Aslam Sanjrani, former IGP Mushtaq Shah, secretary culture Aziz Uqaili, former bureaucrats Abdul Qadir Mangi, Naushad Shaikh, writers and journalists Badar Abro, Bedil Masroor, Jabbar Khattak, Ghulam qadir Palijo, Yousuf Laghari and a large number of others attended the funeral prayers.

Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Justice ® Fakhuruddin G Ebrahim visited the residence of Sirajul Haq Memon and offered condolence with his family members and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. MNA Dr Khatu Mal and a large number of doctors and engineers also offered condolence. The Soyem of late Sirajul Haq Memon will be held on Monday after Namaz-e-Asr at F-13, Block-4 near Mohata Palace, Clifton. Moreover, a condolence reference will be held for late Sirajul Haq Memon on February 10 at 2p.m at Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.

President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Siraj-ul-Haq. In his condolence message, the president prayed to Almighty Allah to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude. He was the uncle of Sindh Information Minister Sherjeel Memon. Born in Tando Jam in 1933, Siraj Memon was the author of many scholarly works on history and literature and also the author of historic novel Parado So Ee Saddu.
